Milk History Summarized

The effort to sanitize food to death, literally, is most obvious in the war on organic, raw unpasteurized milk. This war is peaking again. Instead of outright unnecessarily brutal raids on small dairy farmers, the FDA has recruited state health officials to ramp up legal requirements that don't make anything healthier; they just make it impossible for small dairy farmers to survive. Pasteurized milk is traced to many poor health conditions. Got milk?

Milk History Summarized

A couple of hundred or more years ago, society was more agrarian. All the milk was as-is. Without processing and from open pasture grass fed cows. All dairy products were made from raw milk. It wasn't a problem for consumers. People were healthy.

Then as populations became less agrarian, small dairy farms were contained in crowded towns. Unhealthy and unsanitary crowded conditions with grain feeding, not your basic bovine food, were instituted. Those conditions attracted pathogens, and from that contaminated milk diseases began to emerge.

The real reasons for milk contamination were ignored. Unhealthy conditions in small urban dairy farms were not improved, and along came Pasteur whose germ theory became the foundation for killing those germs by killing the milk with heat!

It's been said that on his deathbed Louis Pasteur recanted his position of the germ theory as the cause of all disease. He conceded that his contemporaries, Claude Bernard and Antoine Bechamp, were correct with their position of the terrain is everything and the germ is nothing!

Still, the medical profession adopted Pasteur's germ theory. It's more profitable to treat diseases than improve the conditions that cause and sustain illness.

Getting By With Bad Milk

Pasteurization of milk allows dairy farmers to create unhealthy muddy feces filled environments for their cows, forcing them into crowded feed conditions with grains, which are not basic bovine foods, and injecting the cows with hormones and antibiotics while not allowing them to graze in open pastures.

Those conditions produce more cheap milk and higher profits for dairy factory farms. With only the bottom line in mind, it makes sense to produce bad milk and then kill the germs by killing the milk with nutrient destroying heat. In addition to lacking nutrients, pasteurized milk causes health problems.

Those nasty germs of Pasteur do get involved with the milk under poor condition because the cows' inner terrains and their surrounding outer terrains are severely compromised, attracting pathogens. An obvious demonstration of the terrain theory is how stagnant water attracts mosquitoes, but mosquitoes don't create stagnant water.

What Pasteurization Kills

The enzyme phosphatase is completely destroyed. The final test for pasteurization after heating to 165 degrees Fahrenheit is the negative Alpha Phosphatase test. And this is the enzyme that is critical to the absorption of minerals and calcium! The dairy industry's vaunted vitamin D is useless with this arrangement.

So instead of building bone density, lots of calcium winds up getting into blood vessels calcifying the inner walls to promote cardiovascular problems, or entering joints to create arthritis.

The heat also destroys digestive enzymes, inhibiting proper digestion of milk fats and creating mucous and phlegm in the body to attract disease. The probiotic digestive bacteria, or friendly flora, are also destroyed. The GI tract is well over half of the immune system. Live intestinal flora is needed to bolster that important section of the immune system.

Meanwhile, not quite dead pathogens could remain in the milk.

The Dangers of Drinking Cows Milk

Before we discuss some of the dangers of drinking cow’s milk, first, it is important to mention that I am not completely anti-milk. I personally do not drink unless it is seed or nut milk but in its pure form, it is not necessarily dangerous.

Yet, due to the extreme processes that milk undergoes, as well as the high amounts of antibiotics, hormones, and genetically-modified substances that cows are continually exposed to, I can, with much certainty, say that there are real and eminent dangers associated with drinking milk from cows. All cows release toxins through their milk, as milk is a natural exit-portal for substances that the body cannot use.

List of “Ingredients” Added to Cow’s Milk

Here are just a few of the artificially-engineered components found in the average glass of non organic pasteurized and homogenized milk on the American dinner table:

  • A Veritable Hormone Cocktail: including pituitary, steroid, hypothalamic, and thyroid hormones (remember most cows are extremely stressed)
  • Gastrointestinal Peptides:
Nerve and epidermal growth factors, and the growth inhibitors MDGI and MAF
  • rBGH (Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone): a genetically engineered hormone directly linked to breast, colon and prostrate cancer. This is injected into cows to increase milk production.[1]
  • Pus: National averages show at least 322 million cell-counts of pus per glass![2] This is well-above the human limit for pus-intake, and has been directly linked to paratuberculosis bacteria, as well as Crohn’s disease. The pus comes from infected udders on the cows known as mastitis.
  • Blood Cells: The USDA allows up to 1.5 million white blood cells per milliliter of commonly-sold milk.[3] Yes, you are drinking cows blood in the milk and the USDA allows this!
  • Antibiotics: Currently, cows are in such a state of disease and mistreatment that they are continually being injected with antibiotic medicines, and rubbed down with chemical-laden ointments to deal with their chronic infections. Currently, regulating committees only test for 4 of the 85 drugs in dairy cows. This means that the other 81 drugs in cow’s milk are coming directly into your glasses and bodies. Estimates show that 38% of milk in the U.S. is “contaminated with sulfa drugs or other antibiotics,” according to a study by the Centre for Science in the Public Interest and published in the Wall Street Journal on December 29, 1989. A study from the FDA data showed that over half of all milk was laden with traces of pharmaceuticals yet nothing has been done to control this.

How Does This Affect the Cows?

Furthermore, not only are people drinking in these toxins, we are also taking in the energetic effects of the life of the cow.

Studies show that many cows are infected with incredibly painful inflammatory infections such as mastitis. Due to over-milking, artificial hormones, bacteria and medications, cow’s udders can become chronically inflamed, thus altering the color and taste of the milk.

Over time, this bacterial invasion causes harm to the cow’s mammary gland, reeking havoc on the milk being produced. From parasitic worms to cancerous tumors, these diseases are often passed along to the next generation of cows, and more often, into the milk we drink.

Even more, the conditions in which cows live, as well as the rigorous milking regimes, cause dairy cattle to live in a permanent state of sympathetic (stress) response, as well as adrenal over-load. When our adrenal glands are overworked for long periods of time, there is a overload of cortisol in the blood. When we drink this milk, we are then exposed to the millions of stress-response cells in the milk of cows. It is no wonder that we are a chronically-stressed society!

How To Avoid Dangers Related to Cow’s Milk

In conclusion, it might be a good idea to take a cleansing break from dairy. Here are some ways to avoid the dangers associated with cow’s milk:

  • Replace cow’s milk with healthy natural substitutes: rice milk, almond milk, raw goat’s milk or my favorite – hemp milk.
  • If you do insist on drinking cow’s milk, make sure to buy only the non-genetically modified, range fed, organic raw versions. Even better, talk to your local organic farmer to make sure the cow’s are treated kindly.
  • Eat less cheese and always buy organic versions. Goat’s cheese is the best for you!

                      GOT MILK?

"The Human Body has no more need for cow's milk than it does for dog's milk, horse's milk, or giraffe's milk."

 -Michael Klaper, MD, speech, 7/19/85

Think about this for one second.  Why do we drink milk at all?  It is intended for a baby calf.  Do we drink milk because there is real scientific proof that it is good for us, or is it merely the National Dairy Council, a propaganda machine dedicated to selling its product?  Let's take a look.  Human milk has 5% calories as protein, and human babies double their birth weight in 180 days. The percentage of protein in cow's milk is three times as high, 15%. Calves double their birth weight in only 47 days. Cow's milk has enough fat to turn a 45 pound calf into a 400 pound cow.  Milk, or as John McDougall, MD, calls it, "liquid meat,"  is very high in protein, fat, and cholesterol, yet contains no fiber and is low in carbohydrates.  Here is a brief list of the disorders caused by the unnatural consumption of cow's milk and dairy by human beings:

"Gastro-intestinal- canker sores, vomiting, colic, stomach cramps, abdominal distention, intestinal obstruction, bloody stools, colitis, mal-absorption, loss of appetite, growth retardation, diarrhea, constipation, painful defecation, irritation of tongue, lips, and mouth.

"Respiratory- nasal stuffiness, runny nose, otidis media (inner ear trouble), sinusitis, asthma, pulmonary infiltrates.

"Skin- rashes, atopic dermatitis, eczema, seborrhea, hives

"Behavioral- irritability, restlessness, hyperactivity, headache, lethargy, fatigue, allergic-tension fatigue syndrome, muscle pain, mental depression, enuresis (bed wetting, often caused when the bladder tissues become swollen and insensitive to the feeling of fullness).

"Blood-  abnormal blood clotting, IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA (dairy products are the cause of at least50% of childhood iron deficiency anemia and an unknown percentage of anemia found in adults; this condition results from bleeding of the small intestine caused by dairy proteins and is not responsive to iron therapy until milk and other dairy products are eliminated), low-serum proteins, thrombocytopenia (low platelets), and eosinophilia (allergic-related blood cells).

"Other- anaphylatic shock and death, sudden infant death syndrome (crib or cot death)."

What About Calcium?
This will be shocking to you, because it goes against years of conditioning by advertising and Doctors who knew nothing about nutrition.  Due to the high protein content of milk, there is a net loss of calcium in the body when consumed.  Even studies paid for by the National Dairy Council have shown that the excessive protein in milk lowers blood calcium levels, causing the body to draw on calcium from the bones. All of the propaganda about drinking milk to prevent osteoporosis is completely inaccurate.  Milk actually helps cause the condition.

"The African Bantu woman provides an excellent example of good health.  Her diet is free of milk and still provides 250 to 400 mg of calcium per day from vegetable sources, which is one-half the amount consumed by Western women.  Bantu women commonly have ten babies during their lifetimes and breast feed each of them for about ten months.  But, even with this tremendous calcium drain and relatively low calcium intake, osteoporosis (thin, fragile bones) is essentially unknown among these women.  It is interesting to note, when relatives of these same people migrate to the affluent societies and adopt rich diets, osteoporosis and diseases of the teeth become common."

What about Vitamin D?

"The Dairy Industry has added supplemental Vitamin D to milk, supposedly to protect people from developing rickets.  Rickets is a disorder characterized by painful and deformed bones.  This disease is common in places where there is limited exposure to sunlight.

"To begin with, vitamin D is actually NOT a Vitamin because the body can and does synthesize all that it needs. Vitamin D is really a hormone synthesized by the action of SUNLIGHT on plant sterols found in our skin.  Our body levels of Vitamin D are only slightly affected by dietary sources such as milk fortified with Vitamin D and Vitamin pills.

"Because Vitamin D is fat-soluble, this hormone can be stored in our body fat for long periods of time.  Therefore, INTERMITTENT EXPOSURE TO SUNLIGHT IS ADEQUATE...our minimum requirement for sunlight is small and easily met by most people in their daily activities."

This was just a brief review of some of the problems and myths associated with milk.  I didn't even discuss the pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, antibiotics, and genetically modified growth hormones that have been linked to so many different problems in human beings.  There are also a number of other disorders and diseases that milk causes.

Why US Milk is BANNED From All of Europe

On March 18, the New York Times ran an editorial titled “Honest Food Labels.” In this article, Dr. Hamburg publicized letters to about 17 or 18 companies, accusing them of masking undesirable ingredients in their products.

She also emphasized the importance of providing information that consumers can rely on.

“Very, very unfortunately, however, she has totally failed to take any such action with regard to two of our major dietary staples; milk and meat,” says Eptein.

“She has excluded milk and meat from undesirable ingredients, and in so doing, she has created the impression that they are safe.

… About 20 percent of our milk is genetically engineered. Technically this is known as rBGH, the small R stands for recombinant, BGH, is bovine growth hormone… This [milk] contains very high levels of a natural growth factor known as IGF-1…

IGF-1 stands for Insulin-like Growth Factor 1. So growth factor 1 is a natural growth factor and is responsible for normal growth but when you drink rBGH milk, you have very, very high levels of this natural growth factor.

When you drink it, the IGF-1 survives digestion and is readily absorbed from your small intestine, into your blood.

Increased levels of IGF-1 have been shown to increase risks of breast cancer and we have about 20 publications showing this; risk of colon cancer [shown] by about 10 publications; prostate cancer by about another 10 publications.

And a further concern: increased levels of IGF-1 block natural defense mechanisms against early cancers, [mechanisms] known as ‘apoptosis.’”

The scientific evidence of the dangers of rBGH milk is explained in great detail in Dr. Epstein’s book What’s in Your Milk?, published in 2006.

“Based on the concerns which I have just briefly summarized, in 1999, the United Nations Food and Safety Agency, which represents a hundred nations worldwide, ruled unanimously not to set safety standards for rBGH milk, and effectively this has resulted in an international ban on U.S. Milk.

So here we have Margaret Hamburg saying she wants to prevent any company from selling food with undesirable ingredients. Yet, American milk is banned worldwide because of its dangers -- because of its high levels of IGF-1 and attendant risks from that.”

It’s even worse than simply ignoring the dangers, because milk producers who are committed to providing healthier milk are not allowed to label it correctly. That’s right, they’re NOT allowed to say it’s “rBGH-free,” without adding a big disclaimer saying there are no known health risks of rBGH…

In an ideal world, agencies like the US FDA would do the proper investigations and protect you from known health dangers, so you don’t have to. But there’s nothing ideal about the current state of affairs, so it’s imperative to do your own research and educate yourself about what toxins are lurking in your foods, drugs, and other consumer products, so that you can make the conscious choice to avoid them.

This also goes for most commercial meats.

The Beef with Commercial Meats

One practice in particular makes most commercial meats potentially dangerous to your health, and that’s the practice of implanting cattle with sex hormones prior to entering the feed lot, about 100 days prior to slaughter.

This is done by implanting a pellet containing natural or synthetic sex hormones under the skin of the cattle’s ear. The objective is a financial one, as it increases the meat weight, and hence profits, by about 10 percent, for very little additional cost.

As a result, nearly all commercial meats contain very high levels of sex hormones. Either the natural hormones: testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, or the synthetic equivalent.

“Our meat poses increased risks of hormonal cancers, which have escalated since 1975. Breast cancer has increased by 25 percent, prostate cancer by 60 percent, and testes cancer by 60 percent,” says Epstein.

“Not surprisingly, U.S. Meat is banned worldwide like rBGH milk.

So here we are, in what I like to consider is the leading democracy in the world, in which we sell a staple diet -- meat and milk -- that are banned worldwide because they pose major threats of cancer.”

In 1986 there was a report titled “Human Food Safety and the Regulation of Animal Drugs,” which was unanimously approved by the House Committee of Government Operations. In it they concluded that “the FDA has consistently disregarded its responsibility, has repeatedly put what it perceives are interests of veterinarians in the livestock industry ahead of its obligation to protect consumers, thereby jeopardizing the health and safety of consumers of meat, milk, and poultry.”

Unfortunately, nothing has changed as a result of any of these findings.

Says Epstein:

“The American public are still eating and drinking ultra dangerous products in spite of the overwhelming scientific evidence, and in spite of the warnings they have received from the rest of the world that “we will not buy your products.”

… It’s almost like an Alice in Wonderland situation. We like to think we’re the greatest democracy in the world and yet we tolerate white collar crime, industry white collar crime, and the white collar crimes for profit.

Not only do we tolerate it, we don’t raise any questions or objections to it.

So, there is something the matter with the American public because they still implicitly trust government and my unfortunate and unhappy warning is: you cannot trust government. You cannot trust USDA.

You cannot trust FDA, and I say this with a sense of overwhelming sadness but there’s an old French expression saying, “Anyone who is in danger should save himself.” “

Making educated choices when food shopping has become a necessity, if you want to remain healthy. That includes avoiding all pasteurized milk, especially milk containing rBGH, and avoiding all commercial, conventionally-raised meats.

One exception is lamb. Dr. Epstein confirms that sex hormones are not used for lambs, and since they’re slaughtered young, they’re mainly grass-fed, even when raised non-organically. It’s also fairly inexpensive, so it can serve as a good alternative if you don’t have regular access to organically-raised, grass-fed meats.
